What is female genital prolapse?

When we talk about prolapse we refer to the decline and fall of an internal pelvic organ (uterus, vagina, bladder and urethra, and rectum) of the body because of the relaxation of their suppport, especially when he goes through a natural orifice or artificial.

It is divided into three classes:

- Previous: prolapse vagina urethra or bladder or both (cystocele, urethrocele).

- Medium: decrease uterine or vaginal vault (uterine prolapse, enterocele).

- Rear: rectal prolapse vagina (rectocele).

Depending on the type of prolapse, symptoms are different.

What are the causes of genital prolapse?

Prolapse is more common in women who have had one or more vaginal births.

Other factors that may cause prolapse are:

- Aging and weakening of the muscles, especially the pelvic floor

- Lack of estrogen after menopause

- Conditions that put pressure on the pelvic muscles, such as chronic cough and obesity

- Pelvic tumor (rare)

SYMPTOMS

- Pressure or heaviness in the pelvis or vagina

- Problems with sex

- Leakage of urine or sudden urge to urinate

- Protrusion of the uterus and cervix to the vaginal opening

- Repeated bladder infections

- Vaginal bleeding

Treatments:

Vaginal pessary

The doctor may recommend a silicona device called pessary. This device supports the uterus in place.

SURGERY

Surgery should not be done until the prolapse symptoms are worst than the risks of having the operation. The specific type of surgery depends on:

- The severity of prolapse

- Plans for a woman for future pregnancies

- The age, health and other medical problems of a woman

- The desire of women to preserve the role vaginal

Complications

You can develop an infection of the cervix and vaginal walls in severe cases of uterine prolapse.

It is possible that urinary tract infections and other urinary symptoms occur due to cystocele. You can also have constipation and hemorrhoids because of a rectocele.

The purpose of this blog is to provide health information under any circumstances substitute consultating with your doctor.
